MeetFrida goes VOLTA 2022

image

VOLTA began life in Basel in 2005 as a collaboration between friends and dealers to support ambitious international galleries to participate in the art markets’ major cities. Every year, renowned galleries bring their artists and their art to the Swiss metropolis and show the most innovative positions that the art market has to offer.

At VOLTA Basel MeetFrida now presents itself for the second time with art. We show two up-and-coming artists who both deal with the relationship between the human body and its social perception in very different ways.

Philippa Brück

Characterized by their opaque, evocative colors and sweeping floral forms, Philippa Brück's current work embodies a new view on physicality and the close connection between life and decay. Her usually large-scale oil paintings seem to move on the threshold to traditional still-life painting, although they include figurative subjects and embrace a contemporary interest in the work of collage. They are connecting fragments of flowers, plants, landscapes, insects or human limbs to create new bodies, new figures.

Philippa Brück was born in Germany in 1993. She studied Scenic Painting at the University of Fine Arts Dresden and Illustration at the University of Applied Science Hamburg.
