Digital art at Alter Wall

Sophisticated art productions are as much a part of Alter Wall as upscale gastronomy and fine shopping experiences. Currently, visitors to the boulevard in the heart of Hamburg are invited to experience art in a completely new way. A digital sculpture by the Berlin-based artist Ju Schnee can be experienced live and in augmented reality directly via cell phone and enables new perspectives on the historical backdrop of Alter Wall. The art production was created in cooperation between MeetFrida and Alter Wall.

Anyone walking along Alter Wall in the next few weeks will come across pink stickers with a QR code on the windows of the Bucerius Kunst Forum. Using this, the digital sculpture installation Strolling Around by Ju Schnee can be easily opened with a cell phone or tablet. With the screen facing upwards, the colorful and unusual digital 3D artwork can then be viewed from all sides with Alter Wall in the background. In this way, virtual augmented reality combines with heritage-listed architecture of the iconic building ensemble that has just been named "Building of the Year 2020."

"I have wanted to create an augmented reality sculpture for the public space for a long time and am pleased that this could now be realized at Alter Wall. Right in the center of Hamburg, a novel combination of real and digital is now being created. I hope that the AR installation will inspire and surprise the viewers," says Ju Schnee.
