Digital photography, fine art print on Hahnemühle paper Edition: 1/12 (plus 2 artist's copies)
Patricia Kranz (born 1960 in Bennhausen, Rhineland-Palatinate) lives and works in Biederitz and Magdeburg. Since her art studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, she has been engaged in painting and graphics, and since 2008 she has been creating sculptural objects from plastic bags. Through different technical processes, in which plastic bags are cut up, wrapped, pressed or melted, she transforms them into colorful wall and floor objects. They form the starting point for her photographs. While the first photographs served merely documentary purposes, the artist now uses the medium to explore her objects photographically with a macro lens. The extreme close-up view of the plastic bags, some of which have been alienated beyond recognition, leads to surprising results. Based on her experience with painting, the artist finds a way to return her sculptural works to two-dimensionality via the medium of photography and to open up new visual worlds with painterly qualities.
